Art From The Prairie

Barbara Haynes grew up on the high plains of western Kansas surrounded by prairie landscapes and colorful sunsets.  With nature as inspiration, she works in acrylics and mixed media. She believes art is about creative expressions and pushing boundaries beyond the literal. Through the use of various textures, colors, and techniques, she aims to create pieces that evoke emotion and inspire imagination.

Haynes' work is exhibited at the Carriage Factory Art Gallery in Newton, Gallery XII in Wichita, and the Vernon Filley Art Museum in Pratt. Her work has been featured in local shows including at Wichita City Arts, Mark Arts, Carriage Factory Art Gallery, Art at the Arb, and Dyck Arboretum.  Her work has twice been featured on the CBS Sunday Morning show and she completed a mini Keeper of the Plains which is located at the Berry Companies Headquarters in Wichita. She enjoys teaching mixed media workshops to students of all ages and abilities.

Ms. Haynes holds a degree from Kansas State University in apparel design and an elementary education degree from Friends University.  She has studied with nationally recognized mixed-media artists Sandra Duran Wilson and Ardith Goodwin. She lives in Wichita and has recently retired from a twenty-seven-year career in special education.
